Speaking of Faith by Krista Tippetts. It is a very readable, deep and personal reflection on faith and our times. Recommended by Mary Nelson

 

Enrique's Journey by Sonia Nazario was an excellent book on immigration as was What is the What by Dave Eggers. First choice would be Enrique's Journey. It is very readable even for middle school and up, well researched, and looks at the situation from many perspectives in a nonpreachy way. Recommended by John Booy.

 

Plunge2Poverty: An Intensive Poverty Simulation Experience by Jimmy Dorrell that will help ministries create an experiential learning environment for middle-class Christians to mobilize them toward compassionate involvement with the poor.

Winning Grants to Strengthen Your Ministry by Joy Skjegstad

Winning Grants to Strengthen your Ministry....in fact, I used material from it in my most recent Congregational Based Community Economic Development MACD course. Would highly endorse the book to be shared with the CCDA folks. There is an especially helpful chapter on "Faith and Fund-Raising: Can they go together?" that I found a refreshing look not found elsewhere. The book, too, has a lot of very practical and helpful material that will assist groups in clarity about what they want to do (purposes and outcomes) and ways to raise the funds (starting with themselves and relationships) to help make that happen.
